Size doesn't matter

Anaarkali: Anokhi, Silver: India, Shoes: Topshop and Bag: Funkis

I love strong shapes and easy silhouettes that play with size and proportions in silks, linen, cotton, khadi or any natural breathable fabric. This anaarkali is from Anokhi, they didn't have my usual size so I went two sizes up as I really liked the stripes. I love the easy, flowy fit of the garment in a size much larger than is deemed fit for me. And as I wear the same items of clothing summer, winter, autumn, spring or monsoon I wear this dress all year round with tights/ jeans and thermals in winter and just by itself on warmer days.

Garment size is a concept that I have always consciously tried to do away with and my closet consists of every size from extra extra small to large. I truly believe I wouldn't like this dress as much as I like it if it fit me any tighter and I love anything with pockets. As usual I wore it with worn-in leather and silver from the heartland of India.

Bandhani for my 200th post

I love wearing cholis and saree blouses as tops with jeans and love wearing tee-shirts and sweaters as blouses with sarees. You would have seen cholis with denims here, here and here and a sweater with a saree here.

I don't see the point of wearing certain things in pairs just because that is how it has been done for decades. I believe in having fun with things and playing with silhouettes and proportions as well as putting things together in one's own way. My latest favourite is wearing a Rajasthani type long Bandhani choli with denim and I can say that I am obsessed with this top. It is made from a Gajji silk fabric, which means that it is a satin weave done on silk fabric. It's really soft and I love the deep green colour and the subtle Bandhani designs.

I have had a few things made in this fabric and they are all beyond lovely. The top is worn here with drop-crotch boy-friend jeans but trust me it looks great with shorts, skirts as well as skinnies. These leather slip-ons are from Bali and all the silver is from India, mostly designs from various tribes in Gujarat and Rajasthan.

I hope everyone's had a lovely festive season and are excited about what 2016 will bring. Have a great Sunday :)

Puppy love and bell-bottoms

Been spending a lot of time at the dog-park and running around keeping up with my four legged friends. Sometimes I do the whole blue jeans, silk singlet, black cross-body and minimal jewellery thing but more often than not the jeans are super flared. Hope everyone's had a lovely February, here's to a wonderful week. Happy Tuesday folks.

Crochets and Backpacks

This week marks the birthday celebrations for my beautiful Mum. Here's wishing her all the happiness and love in the universe.

Nothing screams more happy and relaxed to me for spring/ summer than crochets, yummy jewellery and backpacks. Can you tell I can't wait to be on a tropical getaway?

Its not the labels that make me happy, the soft feel of much used crochet, a worn-in suede belt, leather sandals bought in Bombay ages ago combined with a vintage backpack and necklace make me feel like a princess.

What are your go-to pieces that never fail to make you feel great?

Jardin d'hiver

Just the other week the boy gave me a wonderful gift; a bicycle to ride around town and hopes at some point we will go mountain biking together but trust me that day is faaar away. So far we've been riding around our neighbourhood and on Sunday went to the beautiful park by the water. It is by far one of my most favourite places in the city, think tropical jungle, a beautiful fernery, wonderful cactii and succulent garden, all in all paradise.

I am tired of wearing winter clothes so my block print obsession has returned with a vengence and I am doing most of my layering under my dresses/tunics these days.

Here are a few photos of what I was wearing plus beautiful plant friends and I went a bit over board with the pictures so be warned, a LOT of images coming up...

Creature of habit

For all my rants against the world becoming a blur of grey and black in winter, I am not much better. This winter I'd decided to dress creatively while trying to stay warm but from the following photos one can tell that I have failed. Lately my uniform du jour has become a bright jersey skirt, sweater/ shirt, an over-size cardigan or coat and my converse. Hmm going to have to change that.

I tried not to just wear pants and this happened, I think I am more of a creature of habit than I'd like to admit. To be honest I've had my decent moments of wearing bright yellow leggings etc to work but ofcourse I haven't documented the fun outfits. Time to up the ante blog photos wise.

Hope everyone is having a great week. Thank you so much for your comments on my last post. I think I am going to include more travel posts on this blog from now on. Happy Thursday all!

Winter outfit details

Lately I haven't been doing much apart from working and trying to stay warm, most of my time outside of work is spent dreaming about warmer weather and what I would do when the cold finally dissipates.

I've also been thinking about people and their unkindnesses, what boggles my mind is that some people will be unkind and mean just because they can and then will go every week to temple or church as if God cares whether or not one attends prayers with a face full of make-up and a heart full of nastiness. It really bothered me for a bit, then I thought why even let them occupy a tiny breath of my existence and decided that I would never be like that, I will try in every way that I can to be a better person and that is all that matters.

Since there hasn't been any time or the right kind of light to take outfit photos I will leave you with these random recent and not so recent photos of outfit details that really make me happy. Hope you have a great weekend!

Indian Metallic Block Print Cotton dresses are my thing

Dress, Jewellery and Bag: India

This dress has the most pretty metallic block print and a great minty colour but was this awkward sort of midi length that no matter what I just couldnt work it, so i hacked it and fell in love. I love the subtle sequin neckline and the fact that its quite roomy so I can easily fit a sweater under. I love this little street with its super fun tropical foliage and numerous kitties. Hope everyone's having a wonderful week. Happy Friday all!

Its always the season for block printed vintage cotton skirts

Skirt, Scarf, Jewellery: India, Vintage Leather jacket, shoes and bag

Like I said before, with the rainy weather and low temperatures its been hard to dress creatively but one thing that has still remained constant is my love for Vintage block print cotton. This skirt is a summer staple on the beach with a bathing suit top and with boots and socks becomes winter weather friendly. I will never understand why certain colour palettes are meant only for summer and others only for winter. I say baah to the rules, wear what makes me happy and puts a spring in my step.

The other night I received a notification on instagram and discovered that one of my favourite bloggers Ulrikke featured a few of my photos on her blog. Considering I love her ideas and sense of fashion it was great to be complimented by her in this fashion and also its so wonderful to have such a support network of like-minded bloggers to make my world a better place.

I am forever thank-ful to the beautiful, talented and generous ladies I have met through this blogging journey and I look forward to meeting more. For me its never been about garnering a huge number of followers but meeting and fostering bonds with like-minded women who know there is more to life than following tired rules.

Its been a beautiful winter's day today, no rain thankfully and I hope it stay this way so I can spend some time outdoors. Hope everyone's had a wonderful weekend.
