In this house the cat is incharge

Nothing beats a day in a crochet wisp, boots and embroidered bag indulging in some feline loving. I live for relaxed days like these. Happy Womens' day, I know it sucks we just have one day a year that celebrates us but entire lifetimes of misogyny therefore I treat all my days like we're Goddesses.

Anywho google's dedicated a celebratory doodle to us today and I want to wish all the ladies out there fighting daily in the face of patriarchy "WE RULE", "WE'RE AWESOME" and "PEOPLE WHO THINK OTHERWISE ARE SCUM"..

Have a wonderful weekend and I want to tell the awesome women in my life I'd be nothing without you and Yes! I mean you, Mummy..I'd truly be nothing without you and I hope you see your own worth and demand being treated with love and respect.

Crochets and Backpacks

This week marks the birthday celebrations for my beautiful Mum. Here's wishing her all the happiness and love in the universe.

Nothing screams more happy and relaxed to me for spring/ summer than crochets, yummy jewellery and backpacks. Can you tell I can't wait to be on a tropical getaway?

Its not the labels that make me happy, the soft feel of much used crochet, a worn-in suede belt, leather sandals bought in Bombay ages ago combined with a vintage backpack and necklace make me feel like a princess.

What are your go-to pieces that never fail to make you feel great?

The Nomad

Super old Camo skinnies: Don't remember, Shell anklet+Embroidered Shawl: India, Suede sandals: Wittner, Crochet top: Vintage

It hasn't stopped raining for the last two days, now the winds have taken a decidedly cyclonic turn, parts of Queensland and northern NSW are flooded and I am sitting at home willing my mouth to heal from the wisdom tooth extraction. All in all a super lazy, stay at home weekend consisting of eating mushed up food, ice-cream and watching movies.

Nothing screams comfort to me like super old jeans, crochet, warm shawl, carpet bag and comfy sandals, therefore this outfit. Hope every-one else has had a dentist free time and are staying dry. Come back Sun and I promise never to complain about the heat.

Amour eux de la montagne

Dress: Indonesia, Bag: Vintage, Silver: India+Sydney markets, Leather back-pack: Vintage, Shoes: Palladium

We spend the last weekend of the year, at the Blue mountains just outside Sydney exploring caves, walking up and down beautiful mountain tracks, chilling by stunning water falls, saying hello to wild wallabies, eclectus parrots and more water dragons than I was comfortable with. I left the house wearing a pair of fluro pants and my crochet cardie but discovered it was super hot when we got there so I changed into a kinda tattered/ almost backless maxi with my trusty Palladiums, they look great with anything, are super light compared to other hiking boots I've seen and they were exceedingly useful on the Himalayas during monsoon, even more than the professional walking shoes that people had bought for heaps more money, I rest my case. I don't know about anyone else but for me, Palladiums rule! I can't wait to buy a few more on sale, been eyeing the leather ones lately but I think the canvas pairs can take more beating. Hope everyone is has awesome end of the year plans, and 2013 is wonderful! Happy Sunday all!

Look at your Game, Girl

Tee, cardie and back-pack: Vintage, Silver jewellery: Gifted+India

See, I was able to resist my constant vest wearing impulse but then ofcourse I went back to my love of crochet, band tees and acid wash skinnies, what can I say I love my little basics. So today I decided to rummage through my bag storage and pull my leather back-packs out, please expect them to be repeated over and over again, its just so easy to dump all that I need to carry around in them. This or a variation of this is something I constantly live in and try as I might to resist I always reach for them when I am getting dressed and don't want to bother over thinking.

Something that's been on my mind recently has been the whole children thinking that they are entitled to something from their parents idea. I mean to think that your parents will pay your rent, your deposit, your phone bills and anything else that you need, just because, is an idea that seriously boggles my mind. Don't get me wrong I don't want to be preachy, for a long time I was a little miffed that I wasn't allowed to go to art school, then I realized since my Dad paid for my education so he wasn't completely wrong in having a say. I should have looked for more avenues to follow my dreams on my own steam. But eventually I have come to a point where I value my independence and love knowing that I am responsible for myself.

What I can't wrap my mind around is ungrateful children who have been given the education and means to support themselves and still make their parents pay for things they want and then sulk if someone else's family does more than their parents do! They expect parents to pay for lavish weddings but don't want to pay for a single thing from their own pocket and if that's not enough, they want to be completely hideous to the person who's footing the bill, like seriously??!!! I mean I really honestly for the life of me cannot understand the thought processes of such human beings. Okay rant over but not really. I really can't wrap my head around this and would welcome insights from anyone who cares to weigh in.

Onto cheerier topics its the weekend yaaay, already past mid-day Sunday here but it was a lazy weekend well-spent Christmas gift hunting, planting and re-potting and playing with clothes and bags :D Happy Sunday all!

In which we play with the shutter speed

Skirt: Supre, Crochet top/ Leather jacket and boots: Thrifted

This whole outfit post idea came about because of the AWESOME leather oversize shirt/ jacket. Buttery soft leather, thrifted, made in New Zealand and has that perfect shapeless/ oversized silhouette that I love love love, I mean what more can one say? I know that the pictures are not super good but we are new at using a fancy camera and I have zero knowledge of photoshop and like I've said before for me this isn't just about taking the perfect photos. Ofcourse I want to learn and get better at taking and editing pictures but I am not going to beat myself up for not having the most amazing photo spread.

Today the most amazing woman in my life celebrates her birthday, Happy Birthday Mummy :D Hope every one is having a wonderful week and are looking forward to kicking back over the weekend. Happy Thursday all!

Inspiration: Penny Lane

Trifted leather skirt and crochet top, Suede booties: Witchery, Hat: Don't remember

Look at this buttery soft leather beauty, she is the one I spoke about in my last blog post, a little too long so I took a pair of scissors to her but she knows I love love love her. This skirt especially since its worn with a crochet top reminds me of Penny Lane and her little light brown suede (i think) mini-skirt she wears with a peasant top.

I may be a little too obsessed with all things leather, although its a recent phenom, I was vegetarian for years and avoided wearing leather at all costs and even now try to limit my leather consumption to gifted and thrifted items. One day I hope to rid myself of this habit but for now I am going to frolic in this beauty. Happy Tuesday all!

Random shots taken after dark

Hello hello :D Two posts in a week after almost two months of silence? What can I say except for I love getting my posting mojo back. So I am sharing these pictures more for the accessories than anything else, I know some people post perfect looking pictures but I am not one of them. In the first outfit I am in love with the DIY-ed CK shorts, embroidered camel leather bag and the crochet cardigan thing and in the second with the gauzy skirt and the neck party.

I bought the shorts from a vintage shop in Surry hills which I haunt for denim and bags, the embroidered bag was a gift, the crochet cardigan is from the Manly markets, the gauzy skirt is from Paharganj, Delhi and the neck bling is from all over. I bought this skirt on one of my first few days in Delhi with my soul-sister, promptly wore it to go see the Qutab minar and I think I'll always treasure it because of the person I bought it with and the people I met while wearing it for the first time. Yea I am sentimental like that.

The more I read about fashion in most magazines the more I am inspired to just dress for myself, I can't really understand how it is okay for magazines to tell us that we are not good enough if we're not dressing for our body-type, we need to wear certain colours or certain things are not in and wearing them will make us look what? Silly??? Stupid??? Well Bleh! I am barely five feet tall and I will wear maxi skirts and dresses without heels because I WANT to. I am fed up with people telling me what looks good on me or even worse what is appropriate.

Appropriate or inappropriate is all in one's head if you ask me, telling people how they should dress or behave is just plain idiotic. If it is 40 deg celcius outside I will wear the least amount of clothing and if that makes you insecure to have me around your man or woman, one go see a shrink and get rid of your insecurities and two go run round the block to whip your body into shape instead of telling me to dress appropriately!!! Phew rant over.

I've been wanting to get this off my chest for ages, the trip back home was filled with people who made me tremendously uncomfortable about being who I am. The worst part of it all was that more women seemed to be intent on girl shaming than men. But something my Dad said stayed with me "You don't have to change who you are or lie about anything as long as you are happy with yourself". Thankfully my parents are wonderful people and are happy to let me grow into whoever I want to be. I think I should actually sit and do a post on how stupid it is to judge people on the basis of how they choose to dress or undress their body. But in the meantime I have read a pretty good post on the topic and you should definitely read Courtney's blog, especially this post

Happy friday everyone!

Crochet and puppies do it for me at 35 degree celcius

Tee: Salvos, Crochet skirt: Bondi markets, Jewellery/ Bag/ Slippers: India

I had forgotten the joy that are stray puppies on the streets of India, they claim a certain house as their own and are the bestest friends to have. My sister's house is surrounded by stray cats and dogs who have claimed her as their pet and I get to reap all the benefits of that.

Although all this puppy love has resulted in yet another crochet skirt falling in the middle of the street incident, I am beginning to sense a pattern here. And let me tell you getting de-skirted in India can cause far worse problems than anywhere else. Skirt falling dramas and puppy love aside, I am happy to report that the weather here is almost melting my skin off but I have wonderful new treasures to be happy about. My intent to buy only used/ ethical clothing is getting really hard to stick to because I want to buy everything in sight, pretty pretty things call out to me. But so far have got gifts from everyone, claimed a few of my sister's jewels as my own and am wearing fragrant/ fresh flower crowns. Life is good!

Please admire my new embroidered slippers, since I can't wear my short shorts I am going over board with colour, embroidery and fresh flowers. Yes I know my tee says Baghdad but I imagine the city before the war and meanness and I think it must have been beautiful to sit by the Tigris and soak it in. Have a happy happy week!
