The versatile block print chunni wrap

Cotton hand block-printed chunnis (or duppatta, what ever you may choose to call it) with traditional folk motifs earthy colours are one of the most versatile pieces of clothing. The soft cotton weave is large enough to be the perfect oversized scarf, vest, skirt, beach towel, shawl, sarong or throw and it only gets better looking with repeated use.

I've had this one for ages and it is a part of a kurta, salwaar set that has long since been misplaced. The chunni or dupatta is a necessary wardrobe item for a desi woman back home. Normally worn as a long scarf, draped over one or both shoulders with a kurta or kurti, it is usually a flourish of color for any outfit.

I have worn it here as a swimwear cover-up to wade about in the shallow waters of a rivulet that weaves it way through a rainforest, culminating into a spectacular escarpment water-fall. Traditional fabrics and water-falls seems to be a theme on this blog that I am in no hurry to change. I genuinely feel the most content around water-falls with loved ones. What's your happy place?

Tropical waterfalls on road-trips

Happy 2017! Here are some photos that make me happy, from a fun road-trip we went on last month at the beginning of summer.

On our meandering trip exploring the highlands south of Sydney we came across this impressive escarpment-leaping waterfall. The scenic bush walks, lush valley and deep gorges made the place just magical, the best part was we could get in the water and look over the edge down the towering cliff. It was a dizzying but breathtaking experience that I am in no hurry to forget.

Buddhist flags, books and plants

Some of the things that remind me of home are loads of plants & books, a little prayer corner, temple incense, Buddhist flags, the smell of wet soil after plants have just been watered, fresh flowers and spices.

I keep trying to bring in influences of my childhood & what is familiar; to my current home and I've realized it is slowly morphing into little corners that remind me of homes I've lived in and the places I have visited and that stayed with me. I love hours spent de-weeding or re-arranging my green babies, reading amongst them and generally lounging about in my pjs and embroidered slippers with music playing in the background and a book in my hand.

This is a little glimpse into my home and a lazy Saturday evening relaxing after being slightly under the weather.

Post cards from the hills

Aah to be back where it smells of the fresh mountain air, where there is so much to marvel at, so much to stop for & stare at, little rivulets of delight flowing down mountains, few people except for the special individual/s one is travelling with, every moment feels like a tremendous memory is being made and the pictures bring back those feelings of being utterly happy in that moment.

Exploring the world has been a passion since I was a little girl and I haven't been able to shake off the gypsy bug yet, every few years I yearn to pack my bags and move to another corner of the world. Travelling is one of the most exhilarating things on this planet, I wish I can travel the world soon-ish.

Here are a few pictures from the weekend spend camping at the Blue mountains away from the hustle and bustle of the city just a simple life of walking/ climbing all day, eating/ drinking by the campfire and sleeping in our little van. Ah bliss!

We go on the road soon to camp around this wonderful continent and I can't wait to start. One of our friends just visited us on his travels round the world and it got me fired up once again to go off on our little adventure. You can visit his blog here (if you like) he writes in French but his pictures are wonderful and inspires one to pack up and go.

Fingers crossed we save and start off soon.

Happy Thursday world!

Jungle jardin

My balcony seen here over a year ago has become a little green haven where I always feel at peace.

In the summer the foliage makes me feel like I am in the tropics and in the winter by the heat of our portable bbq I've spend many hours reading or just sitting doing nothing. I can't wait to have even more Buddhist flags to create a play of light and shade, its a constant work in progress this yearning to bring the jungle into my home.

Here are a few photos of my everyday attire around my plant babies, nothing special just a few pictures taken right after I'd been pottering around rearranging the greens. Life isn't about always being dolled up for photos, sometimes comfy old clothes and dirt under finger nails feel better than being 24/7 selfie ready.

Yes, I am wearing four anklets at the same time and I think its too little, I yearn to have heaps of silver on my hands and feet at all times.

Hope everyone has a wonderful start to the week!

Crochets and Backpacks

This week marks the birthday celebrations for my beautiful Mum. Here's wishing her all the happiness and love in the universe.

Nothing screams more happy and relaxed to me for spring/ summer than crochets, yummy jewellery and backpacks. Can you tell I can't wait to be on a tropical getaway?

Its not the labels that make me happy, the soft feel of much used crochet, a worn-in suede belt, leather sandals bought in Bombay ages ago combined with a vintage backpack and necklace make me feel like a princess.

What are your go-to pieces that never fail to make you feel great?

Jardin d'hiver

Just the other week the boy gave me a wonderful gift; a bicycle to ride around town and hopes at some point we will go mountain biking together but trust me that day is faaar away. So far we've been riding around our neighbourhood and on Sunday went to the beautiful park by the water. It is by far one of my most favourite places in the city, think tropical jungle, a beautiful fernery, wonderful cactii and succulent garden, all in all paradise.

I am tired of wearing winter clothes so my block print obsession has returned with a vengence and I am doing most of my layering under my dresses/tunics these days.

Here are a few photos of what I was wearing plus beautiful plant friends and I went a bit over board with the pictures so be warned, a LOT of images coming up...
