Jardin d'hiver

Just the other week the boy gave me a wonderful gift; a bicycle to ride around town and hopes at some point we will go mountain biking together but trust me that day is faaar away. So far we've been riding around our neighbourhood and on Sunday went to the beautiful park by the water. It is by far one of my most favourite places in the city, think tropical jungle, a beautiful fernery, wonderful cactii and succulent garden, all in all paradise.

I am tired of wearing winter clothes so my block print obsession has returned with a vengence and I am doing most of my layering under my dresses/tunics these days.

Here are a few photos of what I was wearing plus beautiful plant friends and I went a bit over board with the pictures so be warned, a LOT of images coming up...

India Photo Diary Part Deux

Here are a few more pictures from my trip last year, the street dogs in India were the highlight of my stay, to have those many doggies to pet is so much fun. Fresh fruits at reasonable prices are another thing I really miss not to mention the ease of access to beautiful henna designs whenever one feels like and pretty temple art. Hope you like the photos. Happy Monday world!

Creature of habit

For all my rants against the world becoming a blur of grey and black in winter, I am not much better. This winter I'd decided to dress creatively while trying to stay warm but from the following photos one can tell that I have failed. Lately my uniform du jour has become a bright jersey skirt, sweater/ shirt, an over-size cardigan or coat and my converse. Hmm going to have to change that.

I tried not to just wear pants and this happened, I think I am more of a creature of habit than I'd like to admit. To be honest I've had my decent moments of wearing bright yellow leggings etc to work but ofcourse I haven't documented the fun outfits. Time to up the ante blog photos wise.

Hope everyone is having a great week. Thank you so much for your comments on my last post. I think I am going to include more travel posts on this blog from now on. Happy Thursday all!

Another day another Kolam

On my last trip home my sister's help used to come early in the morning, wash the entrance of the home and make a beautiful 'Kolam'; a geometrical drawing composed of loops drawn around a grid on the floor. I would wake up early to watch her work and one day asked her in my broken Tamil/ sign language if I could take photos of her working.

She would come, clean the previous day's kolam, put dots to make a grid with chalk powder and make a stunning design all in a span of five to ten minutes. While drawing she wouldn't stand up or take her hand off the task of creating the intricate design.

Everyday millions of Hindu women in the South of India make Kolams in front of their homes to bestow prosperity and ward off evil.

I just love the various designs these ladies came up with, its not like they've been to art school or anything. Its amazing when for festivals they make designs on the floor with flower petals and light candles around it.

I also love this lady's bright saree and the bright plastic bucket is so cheerful. Everyday she would come bright and early smelling of the fresh flowers in her hair, these pictures don't do justice to the women you see on the streets in India.

I hope you enjoy these photos and have had a wonderful week.

Winter outfit details

Lately I haven't been doing much apart from working and trying to stay warm, most of my time outside of work is spent dreaming about warmer weather and what I would do when the cold finally dissipates.

I've also been thinking about people and their unkindnesses, what boggles my mind is that some people will be unkind and mean just because they can and then will go every week to temple or church as if God cares whether or not one attends prayers with a face full of make-up and a heart full of nastiness. It really bothered me for a bit, then I thought why even let them occupy a tiny breath of my existence and decided that I would never be like that, I will try in every way that I can to be a better person and that is all that matters.

Since there hasn't been any time or the right kind of light to take outfit photos I will leave you with these random recent and not so recent photos of outfit details that really make me happy. Hope you have a great weekend!

India: Mini Photo Diary

I've been under the weather lately and the cold doesn't help so been trawling website for holiday photos and was getting to a stage that I wanted to just fly out to somewhere warm. And then I remembered I never posted any photos from my trip to India last year, so here are a few. The first three photos were taking around Manali in the Himalayas, the road-side flower seller is in Chennai, in the South and the last few photos are of the Qutab Minar in Delhi. Hope you like. Photos make me want to pack my bags and take off...

Warning: Picture heavy post about to commence.

Indian Metallic Block Print Cotton dresses are my thing

Dress, Jewellery and Bag: India

This dress has the most pretty metallic block print and a great minty colour but was this awkward sort of midi length that no matter what I just couldnt work it, so i hacked it and fell in love. I love the subtle sequin neckline and the fact that its quite roomy so I can easily fit a sweater under. I love this little street with its super fun tropical foliage and numerous kitties. Hope everyone's having a wonderful week. Happy Friday all!
