Kalamkari Cape

One of my favourite fabrics in the whole wide world is; Kalamkari, which is a kind of hand-painted or block-printed cotton textile, produced in India. It is my absolute favourite and I have everything from kurtas to shirts to capes to gaghraas and even wall-hangings in this fabric. In most cases vegetable dyes are used to etch these amazing designs on fabrics and you've seen me wear a duster in this fabric here. This fabric gets softer and more wonderful after umpteen washes making the designs stand out more.

In the above photos I am wearing a cape tailor-made to satisfy my twirling needs, I feel like a pixie running about in my cape on the rocks by the water.

Saree blouses are the best crop tops

The festive season is upon us and I can't wait for Navaratri/ Durga Puja and Diwali, it's the best time of the year in my opinion. Keeping in mind the celebrations as well as the warming weather in the southern hemisphere, all my saree blouses have come out to play as crop tops. I pair traditional silk blouses as well as cholis with everything from shorts, skirts and pants to salwars and gaghras. I am so excited to wear all my blouses and get some more from my sister and go totally crazy all summer.

I wait for warm weather every year to bring out my wonderful cholis to play as you may have seen here and here. Today I celebrate the birthday of one my most favourite people, (happy birthday Mummy) by spending the afternoon in a magical garden getaway. What are you wearing this spring?

Twilight twirls

Sometimes one can't be bothered wearing actual clothes, I just pull out silky somethings in colours I love and decide that will my outfit. And nothing goes better with apology for clothing like a bright embroidered Kutchi bag and loads of jewels.

Winter outfit details

Lately I haven't been doing much apart from working and trying to stay warm, most of my time outside of work is spent dreaming about warmer weather and what I would do when the cold finally dissipates.

I've also been thinking about people and their unkindnesses, what boggles my mind is that some people will be unkind and mean just because they can and then will go every week to temple or church as if God cares whether or not one attends prayers with a face full of make-up and a heart full of nastiness. It really bothered me for a bit, then I thought why even let them occupy a tiny breath of my existence and decided that I would never be like that, I will try in every way that I can to be a better person and that is all that matters.

Since there hasn't been any time or the right kind of light to take outfit photos I will leave you with these random recent and not so recent photos of outfit details that really make me happy. Hope you have a great weekend!

Silk and crochet

Balinese silk dressing gown and belt: Op shopped, Crochet dress: Vintage, Bondi markets, Jewellery: Glebe markets,India and Mexico, Boots: India, Leggings: Tibetan market

Such a gloomy gloomy Thursday, the boy was sickety sick, i felt under the weather, the skies matched our mood therefore I decided to wear something that would cheer me up and added turquoise to the mixture to up the happy. I think I am happy with the result, I mean a keen eye can spot residual gloomy-ness creeping into the pictures but atleast I made an effort.

This crochet dress is another yummy vintage find from the Bondi markets and I am happy to say I now cannot imagine my life without it. Seriously I don't know what I'd do without band tees, denim, leather, crochet and block print cotton and silk AND silver jewellery loads and loads of silver jewellery. Okay all this rambling is happening because I have been planning my packing and cannot take all my favourite things. Ten weeks without all my pretty beauties in a country that is filled with chauvinistic men and people who think women who dress in sleeveless tops are asking to be eve-teased or raped is looking pretty daunting.

Thank God I have my lovely family to keep me company. Gaaah where I can fill a petition to get the airlines to increase their luggage allowance?

Because layers make me happy and warm

Soooooooo a long hiatus has actually resulted in me getting my act together, finally bought a better camera, started documenting things that inspire me and am posting them here. It was soooooo cold today, I don't know if anyone can tell but I am wearing about a million layers of wool sweaters one on top of the other and still felt almost frozen when I wasn't directly under the warm sunshine. Winter thou art a heartless wretch! Okay I will now stop complaining about the weather and start gushing about the Balinese silk dressing gown I am wearing all knotted up to resemble something kimono/ superhero cape-esque. I may have found my soul-mate in silk. Have a happy weekend whatever you'll are doing.
