Fun with Ferns

Spend this afternoon in a beautiful fern covered magical hideaway and I couldn't be happier. Wore my maxi skirt as a hi-low dress with multiple merino wool sweaters plus wool socks and boots and was good to go. Add a colourful hand knotted bag and silk scraf to any outfit and to me its complete. Honestly I don't get why people feel badly dressed or not cool if they're not wearing the latest trending items.

What is the point of wearing something that is being worn by everyone and their neighbour? Don't get me wrong sometimes I see someone who is wearing a currently trending item in a way that is completely different from everyone else. I mean trending or not when someone wears something that they truly like, I believe it shows.

I have been attracted to colour and interesting prints forever and that hasn't changed inspite of the amount of fashion magazines I've read or editorials I've admired or even blogs I've browsed through.

This skirt for example was bought in the dusty streets of Delhi's Paharganj with one of the kindest people I know (Hey Carola) and I don't think I am ever going to part with it. I have too many good memories attached to it and sometimes wear it as a maxi skirt, dress or scraf. It cost less than $5 and I walked past it multiple times before Carola said just buy it and get it over with. I would like to think that the things I buy today will be enjoyed for a long time.

The earliest memories of my love for fabrics are touching beautiful silk sarees in my Grandmother's closet and watch her get dressed. I could watch her for hours...

I remember I used to wait for my Mother to leave me alone at home presumably to do my homework but as soon as a door shut I would run to her dressing table play dress up with her silk sarees, scarves and lipsticks. As soon as she walked in she'd know I'd been up to my usual mischief but I would shake my head from side to side maniacally, make my best puppy face and insist I had been studying.

Okay enough rambling all I wanted to say was, I love fabrics, colours and don't give two hoots about what is in and what is not. Happy Saturday world!

Jardin d'hiver

Just the other week the boy gave me a wonderful gift; a bicycle to ride around town and hopes at some point we will go mountain biking together but trust me that day is faaar away. So far we've been riding around our neighbourhood and on Sunday went to the beautiful park by the water. It is by far one of my most favourite places in the city, think tropical jungle, a beautiful fernery, wonderful cactii and succulent garden, all in all paradise.

I am tired of wearing winter clothes so my block print obsession has returned with a vengence and I am doing most of my layering under my dresses/tunics these days.

Here are a few photos of what I was wearing plus beautiful plant friends and I went a bit over board with the pictures so be warned, a LOT of images coming up...

Winter outfit details

Lately I haven't been doing much apart from working and trying to stay warm, most of my time outside of work is spent dreaming about warmer weather and what I would do when the cold finally dissipates.

I've also been thinking about people and their unkindnesses, what boggles my mind is that some people will be unkind and mean just because they can and then will go every week to temple or church as if God cares whether or not one attends prayers with a face full of make-up and a heart full of nastiness. It really bothered me for a bit, then I thought why even let them occupy a tiny breath of my existence and decided that I would never be like that, I will try in every way that I can to be a better person and that is all that matters.

Since there hasn't been any time or the right kind of light to take outfit photos I will leave you with these random recent and not so recent photos of outfit details that really make me happy. Hope you have a great weekend!

Indian Metallic Block Print Cotton dresses are my thing

Dress, Jewellery and Bag: India

This dress has the most pretty metallic block print and a great minty colour but was this awkward sort of midi length that no matter what I just couldnt work it, so i hacked it and fell in love. I love the subtle sequin neckline and the fact that its quite roomy so I can easily fit a sweater under. I love this little street with its super fun tropical foliage and numerous kitties. Hope everyone's having a wonderful week. Happy Friday all!

Its always the season for block printed vintage cotton skirts

Skirt, Scarf, Jewellery: India, Vintage Leather jacket, shoes and bag

Like I said before, with the rainy weather and low temperatures its been hard to dress creatively but one thing that has still remained constant is my love for Vintage block print cotton. This skirt is a summer staple on the beach with a bathing suit top and with boots and socks becomes winter weather friendly. I will never understand why certain colour palettes are meant only for summer and others only for winter. I say baah to the rules, wear what makes me happy and puts a spring in my step.

The other night I received a notification on instagram and discovered that one of my favourite bloggers Ulrikke featured a few of my photos on her blog. Considering I love her ideas and sense of fashion it was great to be complimented by her in this fashion and also its so wonderful to have such a support network of like-minded bloggers to make my world a better place.

I am forever thank-ful to the beautiful, talented and generous ladies I have met through this blogging journey and I look forward to meeting more. For me its never been about garnering a huge number of followers but meeting and fostering bonds with like-minded women who know there is more to life than following tired rules.

Its been a beautiful winter's day today, no rain thankfully and I hope it stay this way so I can spend some time outdoors. Hope everyone's had a wonderful weekend.

Morrocan back-pack

Hi! Hope everyone's been great while I've been away dressing like a big blob. I tried refusing to accept the onset of winter and decided to go out tights-less couple of days in a row and was down with flu almost immediately. Needless to say I have resigned myself to the cold and am dressed appropriately for the weather these days. Now that my stupidity is out of the way can we please talk about the back-pack that I am sporting in these pictures?

This super cool French Morrocan guy had the awesome-est stall at the Glebe markets last week and I bought this beauty from him. So basically now that I am all bundled up; my bags, scarves and bindis seem to have become the centre of my outfits, can't say I don't like it.

Happy Thursday world!

Denim on crochet

Crochet shorts: Vintage, Denim shirt & Bag: Vintage+DIY, Boots: Docs

Its finally cold enough to wear my Docs and thick denim shirt that I painstaking embroidered. When there is fun stuff to wear just popping by the closest super-market becomes fun. Hope everyone's having a peaceful week so far. Happy Wednesday!

In which we play with the shutter speed

Skirt: Supre, Crochet top/ Leather jacket and boots: Thrifted

This whole outfit post idea came about because of the AWESOME leather oversize shirt/ jacket. Buttery soft leather, thrifted, made in New Zealand and has that perfect shapeless/ oversized silhouette that I love love love, I mean what more can one say? I know that the pictures are not super good but we are new at using a fancy camera and I have zero knowledge of photoshop and like I've said before for me this isn't just about taking the perfect photos. Ofcourse I want to learn and get better at taking and editing pictures but I am not going to beat myself up for not having the most amazing photo spread.

Today the most amazing woman in my life celebrates her birthday, Happy Birthday Mummy :D Hope every one is having a wonderful week and are looking forward to kicking back over the weekend. Happy Thursday all!

Random shots taken after dark

Hello hello :D Two posts in a week after almost two months of silence? What can I say except for I love getting my posting mojo back. So I am sharing these pictures more for the accessories than anything else, I know some people post perfect looking pictures but I am not one of them. In the first outfit I am in love with the DIY-ed CK shorts, embroidered camel leather bag and the crochet cardigan thing and in the second with the gauzy skirt and the neck party.

I bought the shorts from a vintage shop in Surry hills which I haunt for denim and bags, the embroidered bag was a gift, the crochet cardigan is from the Manly markets, the gauzy skirt is from Paharganj, Delhi and the neck bling is from all over. I bought this skirt on one of my first few days in Delhi with my soul-sister, promptly wore it to go see the Qutab minar and I think I'll always treasure it because of the person I bought it with and the people I met while wearing it for the first time. Yea I am sentimental like that.

The more I read about fashion in most magazines the more I am inspired to just dress for myself, I can't really understand how it is okay for magazines to tell us that we are not good enough if we're not dressing for our body-type, we need to wear certain colours or certain things are not in and wearing them will make us look what? Silly??? Stupid??? Well Bleh! I am barely five feet tall and I will wear maxi skirts and dresses without heels because I WANT to. I am fed up with people telling me what looks good on me or even worse what is appropriate.

Appropriate or inappropriate is all in one's head if you ask me, telling people how they should dress or behave is just plain idiotic. If it is 40 deg celcius outside I will wear the least amount of clothing and if that makes you insecure to have me around your man or woman, one go see a shrink and get rid of your insecurities and two go run round the block to whip your body into shape instead of telling me to dress appropriately!!! Phew rant over.

I've been wanting to get this off my chest for ages, the trip back home was filled with people who made me tremendously uncomfortable about being who I am. The worst part of it all was that more women seemed to be intent on girl shaming than men. But something my Dad said stayed with me "You don't have to change who you are or lie about anything as long as you are happy with yourself". Thankfully my parents are wonderful people and are happy to let me grow into whoever I want to be. I think I should actually sit and do a post on how stupid it is to judge people on the basis of how they choose to dress or undress their body. But in the meantime I have read a pretty good post on the topic and you should definitely read Courtney's blog, especially this post

Happy friday everyone!
